February 2011

BAA Members:

As we enter this new year, I thought it was a good time to take stock of the significant progress we have made on several fronts since my last letter to you, celebrate some exciting accomplishments, and fill you in on what is in store in the coming months.

During the second half of 2010, we made the following notable accomplishments:

  1. Mission/Vision/Goals:

BAA Mission/Vision/Goals were developed, adopted and posted to the BAA website

  1. CBA Certification Exam

The first beta version of the CBA certification exam was administered on January 8, 2011 to 10 accomplished professionals who work in the business architecture field, each of whom offered significant valuable feedback during a post-exam discussion.  The next version of the exam is currently being fine-tuned, and is scheduled to be administered in April 2011.  Individuals interested in having the opportunity to sit for the exam at no charge should contact Jack Hilty by April 4.  Participants will be asked to commit to spend 6-1/2 hours on Saturday, April 23, from 8:30am-3pm to take the exam and participate in a post-exam discussion.  Morning refreshments and luncheon will be provided.  BAA members in good standing who pass will receive their CBA.  An online version of the exam (initially in English only) will be available by August 2011.

  1. Certification Requirements

The board discussed and approved the following certification requirements.

a)          All CBA’s must maintain active paid membership in the BAA.  All BAA members must submit their membership fee by June 30, 2011 to remain a member in good standing.  Certification will be revoked if a CBA has not renewed membership within 6 months from the date of membership expiration.  In addition, all CBA’s will be required to take a minimum number (number to be determined by January 2012) of BAA-approved PDU’s (Professional Development Units) within each 3-year period to maintain certification.  Once certification is revoked, an individual will be required to reapply for certification and retake the certification exam.

b)          All current CBA’s are required to reapply and successfully complete the competency evaluation (application form available by request) and certification exam by end-of-year 2012 or lose their certification, with the exception of BAA members in good standing who actively participated in the creation of the CBA certification exam and those who pass beta versions of the exam, to whom CBA’s will be awarded.  Note: BAA members in good standing who do not pass the beta version of the exam on the first try will be given the opportunity to retake the exam a second time at no charge.

As we continue to grow as an organization and advance our position in the corporate landscape, we enlist the support of every BAA member to contribute his/her considerable knowledge, energy, insights and expertise to advance our mission and help to achieve our goals.  To learn more about open committee positions and how you can help, please feel free to contact me.  We welcome your support and value your participation.
